Parish Family Pancake Party

A great way to start the season of Lent is to have a big clear out and so the Shrove Tuesday custom of making pancakes out of all the ingredients that you would not be using during the Lenten Fast came about.

This year both Lent and Easter are extremely early, so to help us all get going with our fasting, we are organising a Parish Family Party on the 1st Saturday of Lent, Saturday 9th February 2008, from 7pm to 10pm.

At the party along with pancakes with various savoury and sweet toppings, there will be music, dancing, karaoke, party games, in fact fun for all the family. This party is aimed at all parishioners from the youngest to the oldest. Children are most welcome, but must be accompanied and supervised by a suitable adult (ideally a parent) at ALL times.

This is not a fundraising event, so tickets are extremely cheap, priced at £3 per person, or £8 per family. Tickets are available at Church on Sundays. No tickets will be sold on the door!

So please put this date in your diary. Get out your party gear, and bring the whole family, for a fun family night out.

Tickets are now SOLD OUT. There is a reserve list for returned tickets.

Lenten Project 2008

In many parishes a specific activity or project to focus the mind and heart during the season of Lent, is often proposed. Often the project will benefit some foreign charity and will involve fund raising. As a parish we are very generous in supporting many charities throughout the year. Fr. Peter is proposing that this Lent we do something as a parish that will focus our attention nearer to home, specifically our Church building.

As a new year’s resolution Fr. Peter and others have been clearing out and reorganizing the sacristies and associated rooms and cupboards in the Church. This now means that we can use the main sacristy as a meeting room for parish groups during the week. As a Lenten Project and the next stage, Fr. Peter is proposing that we decorate all the ancillary rooms in the Church. We have lots of space for storage, but we could make better use of the cupboards and shelves. Would you like to help?

If so, then what we need is far more valuable than money! We need volunteers’ time, talent and expertise. Someone will have to propose the colour scheme! Please keep the Saturdays in Lent free (16th, 23rd Feb, 1st, 8th, 15th Mar) from 10.30am to 4.00pm, and we will form a working party.
